Thailand has launched airstrikes on a logistics center in Poipet, Cambodia, a major border crossing known for its casino industry. This military action comes amidst ongoing violent clashes between the two countries that have claimed at least 38 lives and displaced approximately 800,000 individuals. According to the Thai Air Force, the targeted site was used for storing weapons, specifically BM-21 rockets. The bombings have drawn condemnation from Cambodian officials and raised concerns about the safety of civilians in the region.
Cambodia's defense ministry reported that Thai forces dropped two bombs in Poipet around 11:00 am local time, while Thailand asserted the intent of attacking an alleged military logistics site. The situation has escalated further since a ceasefire brokered earlier this year fell apart, contributing to an increase in fighting, aircraft strikes, and artillery exchanges in the border regions. Meanwhile, many Thai citizens remain trapped in Poipet due to the closure of land border crossings, with the Cambodian government stating it is a necessary safety measure.
