Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon this week, hitting areas outside of Hezbollah's control on Tuesday. Strikes without warning targeted a vehicle north of Beirut and the Jnah neighborhood in central Beirut. Additionally, attacks continued in southern suburbs and areas where Hezbollah is prominent. A severe incident included a strike that destroyed a building on the road to Beirut's airport after an evacuation order was issued. Lebanon's health ministry reported that a health facility was struck in the south, resulting in the death of a paramedic and several other casualties.
The Israeli military claims to have targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and eliminated senior commanders within the group. Hezbollah has increased its military activities since early March, retaliating with missile attacks toward Israel following strikes against its ally, Iran.
Beirut has witnessed continuous airstrikes, with a notable bombing campaign affecting civilian areas like Mansourieh – a primarily Christian residential neighborhood – causing widespread fear as residents heard significant explosions.
As of recently, over 1,200 individuals in Lebanon have been reported killed since the conflict's escalation began. With more than 1 million people displaced and critical supply lines to the south severed, the situation in Lebanon remains dire, drawing criticism and concerns over violations of sovereignty from the Lebanese government. Israel's Defense Minister has indicated that their military plans to maintain control over parts of southern Lebanon, undermining the possibility of a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict.
