In brief
Local media and a civil‑society leader confirm that at least ten civilians died when the ADF entered Cantine‑Aloya in Beni territory. The rebels also burned homes and commercial buildings, and some outlets say more than 20 people may have been killed. The incident comes amid ongoing joint Congolese‑Ugandan operations targeting the ADF, an affiliate of the Islamic State in Central Africa.
At least ten civilians were killed in an overnight attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Cantine‑Aloya, a locality in Beni territory of North Kivu, southern eastern DR Congo, local media reported on Friday.
The strike began late Thursday night and continued into Friday, according to Xinhua. Armed rebels entered the settlement, killing residents and setting fire to houses and commercial buildings.
Tchetche Aliamini, head of a local civil‑society organisation, confirmed the attack and reported extensive damage to civilian property, as cited by local media.
Some bodies were still at the scene, but many residents fled as the violence unfolded. Some local outlets said more than 20 people might have died, though the death toll remains provisional.
The ADF is an affiliate of the Islamic State in Central Africa. Since November 2021, joint Congolese‑Ugandan military operations have sought to track down and neutralise the group.
