HBO has officially introduced the young stars set to headline its upcoming adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Scottish actor Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been selected to portray Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.

An open casting call last year attracted an astonishing 30,000 children auditioning for these coveted roles. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod expressed their excitement, stating that the "wonderful talent" of the three actors is something they can't wait to showcase to audiences.

The trio joins an impressive cast including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Other confirmed cast members are Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, with more character announcements on the way.

These fresh faces stepping into roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint are relatively unknown, but they carry exciting backgrounds. McLaughlin has appeared in the upcoming Sky comedy Grow, and Stanton was seen playing Matilda in Matilda: The Musical in the West End.

J.K. Rowling will serve as an executive producer, ensuring a "faithful adaptation" of her narrative. This series promises more in-depth exploration than the films, given its planned decade-long run. Filming is set to kick off this summer at Warner Bros. Studios in the UK, with the first season possibly debuting as early as 2026 on HBO Max.
