Ukraine and Russia have each accused one another of hundreds of violations of a short ceasefire coinciding with Orthodox Easter celebrations. The Ukrainian military reported that Russian forces committed 2,299 violations since the truce began on Saturday, including the shooting of four unarmed soldiers. Meanwhile, the Russian defense ministry claimed Ukrainian forces made 1,971 violations, including attempted counter-attacks in Dnipropetrovsk.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated his forces would respond 'symmetrically' to any Russian attacks during the ceasefire but expressed hope for an extension of the truce to facilitate peace negotiations, which have stalled amid increasing tensions. However, Russia rejected this idea, stating their attacks would resume.

The Ukrainian military detailed that Russian troops executed four Ukrainian soldiers after the ceasefire began, calling it a violation of humanitarian law. Reports indicated that a Russian drone also hit an ambulance in Ukraine, injuring three medics.

Despite the truce, fighting continues as both sides exchanged accusations. Each side had previously conducted a prisoner swap, but sentiment on the ground remains grim, with many in Ukraine expressing low expectations about the effectiveness of the ceasefire.
