A BBC probe has fired up the MAFS Australia storyline. Fans learned that some show contestants hid past drug‑ and violence‑related convictions, and the Aussie media watchdog slammed the omission as "serious and disturbing." The UK regulator Ofcom shared the concerns, warning Channel 4 about how it might affect the show’s future.

Channel 9 and production firm Endemol Shine Australia insist they run deep checks—police records, psychological exams, medical clearances, and legal reviews. Yet, nine former stars say the vetting can improve, demanding the show ban participants with prior convictions outright.

While Australian episodes are still on air, Channel 4 has removed UK seasons from its All 4 platform and is awaiting the outcome of an external review on participant welfare.
