Towns and villages in southern Lebanon are being levelled by Israeli demolitions, satellite images and videos obtained by BBC Verify reveal.

BBC Verify analysis found more than 1,400 buildings had been destroyed since 2 March based on verified visual evidence.

This is just a snapshot of the overall damage caused by Israeli air strikes and demolitions, as the true scale is likely to be much higher due to limited access and imagery.

Following an order from Israel's Defence Minister, the demolition of homes near the Israeli border has accelerated, leading to fears that this may amount to a war crime, according to legal experts.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) assert that their actions adhere to the Law of Armed Conflict and only allow destruction for military necessity.

As the ongoing conflict has displaced over 1.2 million individuals throughout Lebanon, the effects are severe, leaving many fleeing towards safer regions.

While the Israeli government justifies its military strategy to target Hezbollah positions, international observers raise significant concerns regarding the human cost and potential violations of humanitarian law.
