In a shocking incident in Brazil, three women have died following a family gathering where a homemade Christmas cake was served, with initial findings indicating arsenic poisoning. Local police reported that a 10-year-old boy and the woman who baked the cake are currently hospitalized, also showing signs of the toxic substance.
Five members of the family became ill after indulging in the cake, with family members describing a strange "peppery" taste. Tragically, two sisters, aged 58 and 43, succumbed to cardiac arrest shortly after seeking medical help. A third victim, a 65-year-old woman exhibiting arsenic traces, died later due to complications from food poisoning.
Authorities are investigating the cake and have discovered several expired food items at the baker's home. While investigations continue, authorities have not labeled the baker as a suspect yet. Additionally, the exhumation of her late husband, who passed away under previously deemed natural circumstances, is being pursued in light of the incident.
Arsenic is a toxic substance linked to various health hazards and can be absorbed through contaminated food and water. As testing on the cake proceeds, communities are left reeling from the tragic losses and unanswered questions surrounding this festive gathering gone wrong.
